Tracing the family roots of this branch of the Hickey / Blakely family tree shows that both lines come from Ireland. Though the Blakely family originally comes from England, and first shows up in the 12th century, our branch can be traced back to George Blakely who was born in Ireland between 1781 and 1784.
Hickey family records indicate that James Hickey was born in Chicago, Illinois, in about 1847. Though we have no detailed information on James' parents, the family "corporate knowledge" indicates his father came from Ireland. We are still working to trace the Hickey line before James.
